Men's Bracketology: 2026 NCAA Tournament
What do bracketologists do in the college basketball offseason? The answer, of course, is work on forecasting next season's field of 68! We've been tracking every transfer, portal maneuver and NBA draft entry (and exit) in a comprehensive database of rosters that we use to project the offensive and defensive efficiency of each team and rank every conference. The result is an updated bracket each month until October. Now, let's dive into our second edition of the 2025-26 bracket. And check back on June 17 for version 3.0!
Bracket Watch
This time last year, there was considerable conversation about the potential of a UConn three-peat. The Huskies were attempting to become the first back-to-back-to-back national champions since UCLA (1971 to 1973). That dream died when the eventual champion Florida Gators eliminated the Huskies in the second round of the 2025 tournament -- Florida's toughest test until its title game triumph over Houston. But UConn's chance to make history isn't over: No men's basketball program has won three NCAA championships in a four-year span since those same Bruins did it in 1972, 1973 and 1975, the final one of which capped John Wooden's epic career. And there's no reason UConn shouldn't be considered a very legitimate contender for the 2026 crown, especially with the return of Alex Karaban, which boosts the Huskies to the first line of our latest bracket projection as the final No. 1 seed. UConn slides in just ahead of Big East rival St. John's in what figures to be a seasonlong battle at the top.
